Lauren Corley Vaughn

Lauren Corley Vaughn, 22, of Alexandria, Louisiana, died on April 7, 2023. LV was a passenger in the vehicle of a drunk and impaired driver.  A 100% preventable tragedy ended her life far too soon.  She was so much more than a victim of a tragedy; read on to meet our LV.

Lauren's Story

Lauren Corley Vaughn , "Lolo" or "LV" as she was lovingly called by her friends was one in a million. She was a talented softball player, a gifted student, a loving daughter, a protective sister, a doting aunt, a fierce friend and a God fearing Christian. She was silly. She loved to laugh, play jokes and get a rise out of you. Her smile literally brightened every room she walk in to and her dimples were like the cherry on top.

Lauren graduated from Alexandria Senior High School determined to pursue some aspect of medicine as her career path. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology (with honors) from LA Tech. Afterwards, she enrolled in Northwestern State University’s Accelerated Bachelor to Bachelor of Science Nursing Program in Shreveport. Lauren was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Beta Chi Chapter 068 on March 31. She was scheduled to graduate in August, 2023.

On Good Friday, April 7, 2023, Lauren was the victim of a drunk driving traffic crash in Avoyelles Parish. She was 22 years old. FOREVER TWENTY TWO.

The loss of Lauren has left a void; the world is a little less silly, a little more complicated and a little less bright for those who knew her. However, we feel that we are left with a mission to not only honor Lauren and her desire to be a nurse, but to also raise awareness of the risks associated with drunk and or impaired driving and its fatal consequences. No one should have to lose their child or their friend to one selfish decision. If we can change one person's thought process and potentially save one person's life. then our efforts were worth it. To remember and to honor Lauren’s life and her commitment to the field of medicine, the Lauren Vaughn Memorial 5K Run/Walk (LV5K) will be held on March 30, 2024. The activity will begin on the campus of Alexandria Senior High. Proceeds for the event will be donated to the existing Lauren Vaughn Memorial Scholarship for the Accelerated BS to BSN Program to benefit future nurses.

Fundraising for this scholarship is vital to ensure the continuation for years to come. We hope you will join us in honoring Lauren at the LV5k and if you feel so inclined to become a sponsor, check out our Sponsor Page.
